The Shoe Service
Institute of America is an authoritative source
on the construction, repair and maintenance of
footwear and leather goods, as well as shoe and
leather care products. Its members are retail
shoe repair operators, their wholesaler trading
partners and suppliers that manufacture or
import the products used and sold in shoe repair
shops.
Founded in 1904,
SSIA is committed to furthering the shoe repair
industry by educating consumers about the
physical, economic and environmental benefits of
purchasing and maintaining quality footwear.
SSIA regularly
works with members of the local and national
media to provide timely, accurate information on
the selection, care, maintenance and alteration of

Donald Rinaldi was
elected president of the Shoe Service Institute
of America at its annual meeting July 19, 2009.
Don previously served as both a board member and
as vice president. Don is the president of
Petronio Shoe Products in Belleville, New
Jersey. Petronio was founded by Dons
Grandfather in 1927 and has been continually
operated by the Rinaldi family since that time.
Petronio manufactures and distributes adhesives
and related shoe repair and shoe care products.

Jim McFarland owns
and operates McFarland's Shoe Repair in
Lakeland, Fla. He is a certified pedorthist, a
third generation craftsman and a former member
of SSIA's board of directors. McFarland won the
Grand Silver Cup in SSIA's 2002 Silver Cup
Contest. The cup has symbolized excellence in
shoe repair craftsmanship for more than 50
years. He now serves as a judge for the contest.
