Hello. I'd like to buy my brother a pair of nice brown leather dress shoes. He wears 8EEE, so choices are somewhat limited.

I found some Florsheims online that might work, Cortland 14051 and John 13037--they are the same shoe except for the soles. Cortland has flexible rubber soles and John has "lightweight, high performance micro-cellular based material."

I have had the bottoms of wide heels crumble on several pairs of shoes while I was out and about walking in them! I've heard this has happened to others, and I think maybe that was the microcellular material.

Also, I read that leather soles are the best and that rubber soles are not dressy.

Any suggestions about what soles to look for? BTW, my brother likes to dance, and I am afraid rubber soles will cause him to get stuck to the floor.

Thanks for your help.

Dilbert,
you can buy shoes with rubber (in your case I believe the soles of the shoes you are looking at, are a vinyl/urethane kind), and think about a thin dress leather sole glued onto the sole. You need to find a shoe repair shop that is up to speed about this kind of job so that they can do it properly. *using urethane glues, not the contact cement. Some shops might also have the sueded leather soles that dancers use if you only use them for dancing...(not recommended, though, if you are going to also use them for street use)
